Shovan Bhatia is a second year Medical Student in the Physician Scientist Training Program at the University of Pittsburgh. He graduated highest honors with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in May 2022. At Georgia Tech, Shovan developed a keen interest in performing research occurring at the intersection of neuroscience and engineering for which he was awarded the National Barry Goldwater Scholarship. At Georgia Tech, Shovan worked on a Capstone project with his classmates to develop a novel carotid closure device that is currently undergoing FDA testing. Prior to matriculating into medical school, Shovan spent a research year under Drs. Michael Ivan and Ricardo Komotar at the University of Miami Brain Tumor Initiative where he developed a novel machine learning algorithm to predict progression of glioblastoma using MR Spectroscopy.
Shovan wants to pursue a career as a physician innovator and is currently interested in the integration of artificial intelligence technologies into medicine to optimize treatment decisions for patients. Outside of work, Shovan enjoys playing and watching sports, exploring Pittsburgh’s food scene, and listening to house music.
