Gabriela Alba is a first year medical student at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Before attending medical school, Gabriela graduated from Boston University in May 2022 with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. At Boston University, Gabriela developed a strong interest in the intersectionality of orthopedics and engineering, and worked on optimizing patient-specific cartilage tissue engineering techniques to treat osteoarthritis. Prior to beginning medical school, Gabriela spent two years conducting clinical research within the Orthopedic Surgery Department at Boston Children’s Hospital investigating patient outcomes associated with rare genetic bone disease. Gabriela is interested in pursuing a career as a physician innovator, focused on enhancing patients’ accessibility to surgical care and patient outcomes through artificial intelligence.
